Viruses and Spyware continue to be major problems for many home computer users. One of the latest, most pervasive threats on the internet is extortionware. This is a special class of malware which infects computers, disables any security software that is installed (including quality antivirus programs like McAfee, Norton, AVG, etc) and locks down the system. Many of these programs proport to be security programs indicating that the computer is infected with myriad viruses. They are designed to convince the user that the only way to clean the system is to pay $40 - $50 for the "full version" of the security software which will disinfect the computer.
It can be extremely difficult and time consuming for the average home user to disinfect his or her computer. This is a computer issue which is usually best left to a technician who has the time, knowledge and tools to properly return a system to normal.
Because of the time which is involved in scanning and removing malware from computers, this month we are charging a flat rate of $120 (normally $140) for spyware and virus removal. This rate stays the same whether it takes us 2 hours or 5 hours to return your system to normal.
