Antivirus Solution
We can help you ensure that your computer is protected with a quality Antivirus product which is properly configured to protect you from the thousands of viruses which exist on the Internet. While there are several good commercial products available, including Norton Antivirus and McAfee, most home users can do just as well using one of the free products available online, such as
Comodo Internet Security or Avast! While every computer needs to have an antivirus product installed and updated, a computer can only properly function with
one antivirus product at a time.
Firewall
A second component which every Internet-connected computer must have is a firewall. A firewall prevents unauthorized network connections from being made to or from your computer. The firewall which is included in the Microsoft Windows XP operating system (service pack 2) is decent, but is not totally sufficient for protecting most home computers. The firewall included in the newer Windows Vista operating system is more robust and is probably sufficient for most home users. MTS can help you evaluate your current firewall solution and help you to increase your firewall protection, if necessary.
Anti-Spyware
A third essential security component for home computers is a good Anti-spyware product. Spyware is computer software that is installed covertly on a personal computer to intercept or take partial control over the user's interaction with the computer, without the user's consent. Spyware can be used to track Internet usage, can glean information stored on a computer or can Antispyware software works to prevent malicious software from loading onto a user's computer and helps to remove spyware which has accumulated on a user's system. Unlike Antivirus software, though, it is usually a good idea to have at least 2 Antispyware programs on a computer. Many of the popular Internet security suites available today include both Antivirus and Antispyware software.
Microsoft Windows Updates
Whether you are running Windows 2000, XP or Windows Vista, it is critical that your system be configured with the latest software updates from Microsoft. Much of the malicious software on the Internet exploits weaknesses in Microsoft's operating systems, mainly because more computers in the world are running Microsoft than any other system. MTS Home solutions can run a diagnostic utility to help you determine whether or not your system is up to date. If it is not, we can download and install the most current updates for your system and configure your computer to be updated on a regular basis.
